Braves & Bulldogs: Both Have Big Opportunities

The Atlanta Braves and The Georgia Bulldogs both have huge opportunities this weekend. Tomorrow night, the Braves host the St. Louis Cardinals in the Wild Card playoff game. It's a winner-take-all format, one that Atlanta needs to take advantage of in order to play further into the post-season. Georgia travels to Columbia, S.C. to take on the South Carolina Gamecocks in a much bally-hooed SEC division game. The winner of this game earns the inside track at arriving in Atlanta for the conference title in December. I suppose you could call both of these contests "statement games", as they are pivotal measuring sticks of each teams status in their respective sports. Not just for 2012, but to set the tone for future years as well. It's basically a perception thing: how everyone looks at what you're doing and how you're doing it. After the Braves folded down the stretch run last year, and the Bulldogs closed out the 2011 campaign with back-to-back losses, they both could use a win in a big game situation. Reality is much more important than perception anyway. Just sayin...
